A village. A generation. A promise.

TC — Thaknica PisethKun, Junior Ambassador
Kampong Cham Province, eastern Cambodia.

Kakot is a farming village of around 600 families in Kampong Cham Province, three hours northeast of Phnom Penh. Like much of rural Cambodia, it carries the long shadow of past hardship: limited access to secondary schooling, scarce learning resources, and few options for young people who dream of a different future.

Junior Initiative was founded in 2025 by a group of local teachers, parents, and friends from abroad who believed the answer wasn't to bring solutions from outside — but to back the ones already growing inside Kakot itself.

"We don't bring change to Kakot. We help Kakot become what it has always wanted to be."

Today, we work with the village school, the commune council, and a handful of trusted local partners to fund scholarships, run a daily literacy program, and keep clean water flowing to every household that needs it. Small things, done well, repeated year after year.

One village.
Six hundred families.

Tucked between rice paddies and the slow brown bend of the Mekong, Kakot is small enough that everyone knows everyone — and that's exactly why our work here matters.
